Foggers are an effective tool for controlling flying and crawling insects in an enclosed space.   They are commonly used to combat invasions of mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, fleas and other household pests.

Nuvan® Profi is an uninterrupted release aerosol space fumigation fogger for the control of flying and crawling insects as well as stored product pests (like grain and flour beetles as well as weevils and their larvae).  When triggered, it releases a fine mist insecticide which penetrates cracks and crevices and hard to reach areas where pests hide.  Safe use is very important – read the instructions and precautions on the label as it crucial for safety and effectiveness.  Make sure that all windows and doors are closed and all pets are outside without access to the house.  Trigger the fogger and quickly leave the area for 6 hours.  When re-entering the house after 6 hours, open windows and doors to ventilate the area. The fumigation fogger is very effective and value for money.  A 200 ml aerosol covers up to 360 m³ and a 330 ml aerosol up to 600 m³.  For safe treatment, always follow the instructions carefully and check for additional usage information under the cap.

There are many insects found in South African homes and gardens which can cause disease, some of which are fatal and others that are relatively harmless and seen as a nuisance.

Mosquitoes are without a doubt, the most dangerous creatures in the world.  The diseases they spread have killed more people than all wars in history.  Mosquitoes transmitting malaria kill millions of people every year. They are infamous for causing diseases such as malaria, yellow fever, encephalitis, dengue fever and about 80 other viral diseases in humans. They are active on summer evenings and lay their eggs in stagnant water bodies, like wastewater, rainwater, ponds, natural water bodies and standing water that remains after flooding, etc. where they breed.

While cockroaches are one of the most common pest problems, they are also one of the most stubborn to get rid of.  They breed prolifically and spread quickly. They will infest areas that offer them ample food, water and shelter and can enter your home through cracks in the foundation and exterior walls, sewer pipes, drains, gaps around pipes, windows, vents, etc.   These master stowaways are carriers of a variety of germs that cause food poisoning, dysentery, diarrhoea, ringworm, polio, etc. and contaminate food when they encounter it. Cockroach skins, carcasses and dung aggravate allergies, especially in children and sensitive people.  Because cockroaches are typically nocturnal, you may never notice them but seeing them during the day, indicates a significant invasion.

Flies can be particularly annoying, especially in summer when they breed prolifically.   A female housefly will lay 3 000 eggs within her life span of 21 days and the fly larvae will hatch into maggots within 24 hours.  The housefly is the most common species and carries and spreads several potentially deadly diseases including malaria, typhoid fever, salmonella, tuberculosis, conjunctivitis, leprosy and cholera, as well as intestinal worms and the bacteria responsible for dysentery. Since a fly cannot chew, they must dissolve solid food into liquid by regurgitating digestive juices onto solid foods.  These juices break down the food into small pieces, allowing the flies to use their mouthparts to drink the meal. They feed and reproduce on garbage, faeces and rotting flesh. And then, after picking up millions of germs they land on our food, bodies and personal belongings, leaving behind these germs.

Fleas survive by feeding on animal or human blood. Their bites can cause discomfort, itchiness, and irritation. They can infect humans or pets with the germs that cause flea-borne typhus, bubonic plague or cat scratch disease.   Flea bites look like small, raised bumps that form in a zigzag pattern on your skin, most often targeting your legs and waist.  Fleas breed in warm, humid conditions and although present throughout the year, they are most active during the summer. Getting rid of them is not an easy task as their life cycle can be lengthy and they also breed prolifically in a favourable climate.

Stored product pests like grain and flour beetles, along with weevils and their larvae, can cause significant damage to grains, flour and other stored products.  They infest stored food by laying eggs which hatch into larvae that feed on these products.  These invasions result in reduced food quality, foul odours and economic losses.

While fumigation foggers provide a quick knock down of insects, they should be used as part of an integrated pest management plan that includes proper storage, sanitation, exclusion and targeted treatments.  Proper use, including following label instructions and ensuring adequate ventilation after treatment, is essential for safety and effectiveness.
